Training CoursesTraining courses that form part of an extensive community development programme include: Foster Parent TrainingAt the Thamsanqa Homes the training of the Foster mothers is of utmost importance. This will entail an intense training programme for the Thamsanqa foster-mothers and mothers in the community and those serving on the street-committee. Working with grass-roots people, much training is necessary to change a poverty and lack mentality and to teach them the specifics with regard to child-care and how to meet the needs of the children, the legal implications, the Children’s Act, Children’s Court procedures, IDP and a specific care plan for each child, 16/2 reports, assessments, family re-unification, health matters and parenting skills. In addition to the child-centred training the needs of the foster-parent must also be addressed. AIDS Awareness TrainingInformation on HIV/AIDS will be disseminated in the community. Awareness workshops, dramas and puppet shows will be presented. Life SkillsLife skills and developmental group sessions with the children at Thamsanqa Homes as well as children in the community. Family Preservation TrainingTraining workshops in which the roles of family members are discussed and work shopped and where families are assisted to handle conflict, issues and specific stressful situations experienced. (The disintegration of families is a huge cause of heartache and pain suffered by families and this training course is aimed to prevent this.) Parenting WorkshopsIntensive support and mentor services to at-risk families and families challenged by HIV/AIDS, violence, poverty, unemployment etc.
